WHY THIS IS ON PATREON
Someone I mentor asked how to become more confident. This is the answer I gave.
Confidence is not a personality. It is not volume. It is not a suit. It is a track record with yourself.
I am putting this on Patreon because mentees keep asking for a feeling they can borrow. You cannot borrow this. You build it. One kept promise at a time.
Patreon members get the video plus this workbook so you stop wishing you were confident and start keeping the vow you already made.
THE REAL SOURCE
Confidence boils down to the confidence you have in yourself.
- Break the promise, you erode it. You told yourself you would start. You did not. That is not a small thing. That is a withdrawal.
- Keep the promise and stay consistent, you build it. You told yourself you would show up. You showed up. That is a deposit.
- Other people can cheer you. They cannot keep the vow for you. The source is you.
KEEP THE VOW
Give yourself a promise. Do it. Stay consistent. That is the whole game.
Do not make a vow you will not keep. A small kept promise beats a big broken one. Greater is coming as you keep the vow.
IF YOU CANNOT SEE IT, YOU WILL QUIT
You need a way to track consistency so you can see progress. If you cannot see the progress, you will not stay motivated.
- Invisible work feels like no work. That is why you quit on day four.
- A calendar, an app, a notebook. Pick one. Put the X where your eyes hit it.
- The point is not the tool. The point is that you can see the chain.
THE SEINFELD CHAIN
James Clear tells the Jerry Seinfeld story in Atomic Habits. Write one joke a day. Big wall calendar. Put an X. Do not break the chain.
- One joke a day. Not a special. Not a special when you feel like it. One joke.
- Late at night with no X? Write the joke. Put the X.
- He made a vow and delivered on it. That is the whole method.
THE SCORE IN THE CORNER
Video games show a score. You hear the pitter patter. You feel progress. You need that same feeling in real life.
- Document it. If it is not on the board, your brain treats it like it did not happen.
- The X is the score. The chain is the level. You are training your own nervous system to stay in the game.
- Do not wait to feel motivated. Put the score where you can see it and the motivation follows the evidence.
I ADDED VALUE TODAY
I do Today's Word every day. Even if the rest of the day does not go well, I added value this morning. That is my X.
- The day can fall apart after 9 a.m. The vow still got kept.
- That is how you refuse the lie that one messy afternoon erased the morning.
- Pick your X. Mine is Today's Word. Yours might be a workout, a page, a call, a prayer. Name it. Do it. Mark it.
25 Xs THIS MONTH
You may not get 31. Get 25. Next month 26. Then 27. Build it up until you show up every day.
- Perfection is how people quit. They miss day 4 and throw out the month.
- 25 is a man's number and a woman's number. It is honest. It is buildable.
- Then raise it. 26. 27. Then you are the person who shows up every day.
THE THREE THINGS
I use the Things app. Three major things each morning. If those three get done, it is a good day.
A long list is not a life. Three things that matter is a day you can respect when you put your head down.
YESTERDAY ENDED LAST NIGHT
Did not finish last night? Forget it. Yesterday ended last night. Start over.
- Shame is not a strategy. It keeps you in yesterday so you miss today.
- God's mercies are new every morning. That is not a poster. That is your reset.
- Missed the X? Put today's X. Do not write a speech about last month.
FAITH AND LEADERSHIP BRIDGE
A man or woman of confidence is a person who keeps their word to themselves.
- Be confident. Be focused. Track it the right way.
- Leadership starts in private. If you will not keep a vow nobody sees, you will not keep the ones people depend on.
- Go deeper: The Leadership Inflection Point, How To Think In Systems, From User To Builder.
Greater is coming. Not as a slogan. As the fruit of a kept vow.
CONFIDENCE DIAGNOSTIC
Answer honestly. Your responses save in your browser.
