CLAUDE
101 / DEEP DIVE

The First Course. The Most Important Course. Here's How to Take It.

01 / Why This Course First

WHY THIS
COURSE FIRST.

Anthropic has 18 free courses in their academy. I told you in the last guide that every one of the six paths starts with Claude 101. Now I want to explain why.

Claude 101 is not a tour of the chat box. It is a tour of the parts of Claude that most people using the tool every day have never touched. Projects. Artifacts. Skills. Connectors. Enterprise search. Research mode. These are the features that turn Claude from a chatbot into a workspace. If you only know the chat box, you are using maybe 20 percent of the tool you are paying for.

The course runs one to two hours. It is free. It comes with a certificate from Anthropic that you can put on LinkedIn. No version of that deal is not worth your morning.

03 / The Three Underused Features

THE THREE FEATURES
MOST PEOPLE
NEVER TOUCH.

The truth most people never hear: the chat box is the worst way to use Claude. It is the entry point, not the destination. The features below are what separate the people who get hours back every week from the people who treat Claude like a smarter Google.

01
FEATURE 01 · Module 2 / Introduction to projects

PROJECTS

WHAT IT IS

A workspace inside Claude where you give the model persistent context: files, instructions, prior conversations, reference material. Every conversation inside a project starts with that context already loaded.

WHY MOST PEOPLE MISS IT

The chat box works fine for a question. The moment you have an ongoing role, an ongoing client, an ongoing book you are writing, the chat box becomes a graveyard. Projects fix that.

CONCRETE EXAMPLES
  • LeaderA project for each direct report, loaded with their 30/60/90, recent reviews, and team norms. Now every coaching conversation starts with context.
  • Small business ownerA project per top customer. Drop their proposals, your notes, your contract. Ask Claude anything customer-specific and it answers in context.
  • EducatorA project per course you teach. Drop the syllabus, prior assignments, common student questions. Lesson prep collapses.
  • Nonprofit directorA project per grant funder. Drop their priorities, your past applications, your annual report. Grant writing becomes assembly, not creation.
RICK'S PICK INSIDE THIS FEATURE

Open one project today. Pick the single most important ongoing thing in your work. Drop three documents into it. You will feel the difference inside the first conversation.

02
FEATURE 02 · Module 2 / Working with skills

SKILLS

WHAT IT IS

A reusable instruction set you give Claude once and then invoke by name. A skill can be a brand voice, a checklist, a process, a template, a way of analyzing a document. You build it once. You call on it forever.

WHY MOST PEOPLE MISS IT

Most users repeat the same long prompt every time. They re-explain who they are, what they want, what format they want it in. Skills replace that.

CONCRETE EXAMPLES
  • Voice skillA "Rick voice" skill that rewrites any text in your voice without you having to explain the rules every time.
  • Weekly reviewA "weekly review" skill that pulls calendar events, deals, and emails into a structured Friday recap.
  • Meeting prepA "meeting prep" skill that turns a name plus a topic into a one-page brief.
RICK'S PICK INSIDE THIS FEATURE

The first skill you build should be your voice. Whatever you write often, you write in a recognizable way. Teach Claude that way once. Everything you publish after gets faster.

03
FEATURE 03 · Module 3 / Research mode for deep dives

RESEARCH MODE

WHAT IT IS

A multi-step research workflow. You give Claude a topic. Claude breaks it into sub-questions, gathers sources, synthesizes a structured answer. Not a chat response. A report.

WHY MOST PEOPLE MISS IT

It lives one click off the main interface, and most users do not know to click it. Once you do, you stop opening Google for the things research mode handles better.

CONCRETE EXAMPLES
  • Market analysisCompetitive landscape on a new market in 20 minutes instead of three hours.
  • Meeting prepBackground research on a person before a meeting, with sources cited.
  • Proposal sectionA first draft of a market analysis section for a proposal.
RICK'S PICK INSIDE THIS FEATURE

Use research mode the next time you would have opened a browser to "do some quick research." Time yourself both ways. The hours you save will pay for the certificate ten times over.

04 / Outcomes

WHAT YOU
WALK AWAY WITH.

Four things, concretely. None of them are aspirational.

05 / How to Take It

HOW TO ACTUALLY
TAKE THIS COURSE.

Most people sign up for a course and never finish it. Here is the system that works.

  1. Block two hours. Not "find time this week." Block two hours on the calendar. Treat it like a meeting.
  2. Sign up at anthropic.skilljar.com/claude-101.Free. No credit card. Use the same email you use for LinkedIn so the certificate flows through automatically.
  3. Open Claude in another window. When the course shows you a feature, try it on something real before the next lesson starts. Do not just watch. Use.
  4. Skip the early modules if you are already a daily user.Module 1 ("Meet Claude") is for people who have never opened the tool. If you have used Claude this week, skim it and start in Module 2.
  5. Slow down for Modules 2 and 3.That is where the underused features live. Projects, skills, connectors, research mode. This is what you are here for.
  6. Claim the certificate.Add it to LinkedIn as a Certification (not a Skill, not a Featured post). Use the exact official course name. Link the credential URL.
06 / Certificate Play

THE CERTIFICATE
PLAY.

Most online AI certificates are noise. This one is signal. It comes from Anthropic, the company that built Claude. That distinction matters when a recruiter, a board member, or a future client scrolls your LinkedIn.

  1. Use the exact official course name."Claude 101" when you add it to LinkedIn. Not "Claude Course." Not "Anthropic Training."
  2. Add it as a Certification, not a Skill.Certifications are a separate field on LinkedIn that hiring managers and recruiters filter on. Skills get lost in noise.
  3. Link the credential URL Anthropic gives you.Paste it into the certificate verification field. A linked, verifiable certificate stands apart from an unlinked claim.

For students, leaders, and small business owners especially: this certificate is the cheapest credential on your LinkedIn that will pay off in 2026. Take it.

07 / Where to Go Next

WHERE TO
GO NEXT.

Claude 101 is the universal foundation. After this, you specialize. The path you take depends on what you actually do for work.

FINAL WORD

TAKE THE
TWO HOURS.

Two hours is one workout. One commute. One Saturday morning before the kids wake up. The people who put those two hours in this week will be leading rooms in November. The people who do not will still be calling AI "fascinating" without ever getting past the chat box.

Open the course. Block the calendar. Earn the certificate.
